Roadhouses along the Richardson Highway, such as the Sourdough Roadhouse, catered to tourists in 1923 after the Alaska Railroad and Alaskan motorcoach companies joined forces to offer the "Golden-Belt Tour," which included railway and road travel. Alaska State Library.
