First bus trip to Anchorage from Fairbanks over the Richardson Highway

UAF-1985-30-2

The first bus trip to Anchorage from Fairbanks over the Richardson Highway on record occurred in 1946 or 1947. The first Alaska-based tour agency was founded by Chuck West, a former Wien Airlines pilot, and Paul Greimann, owner of Alaska Coachways. The two men formed Arctic Alaska Travel Agency, renting office space from Cap Lathrop on Fairbanks' Second Avenue. From left are Charles B. West, Jack Musiel, Russel Swank, and Paul Greimann. Archives, University of Alaska Fairbanks.
